Creative Residency

About Creative Residency

Creative Residency Arita is an artist-in-residence program undertaken by Saga Prefecture. The program aims to create opportunities for collaboration through exchanges with local residents and matching with pottery makers and artisans in order to support creative activities in the Arita-yaki pottery production area, focusing on ceramic production.

Saga Prefecture has been involved in various activities for the 400th anniversary of Arita, but I think that by starting this artist residency program and accepting foreign artists, we have been able to look at Arita's manufacturing from an extroverted perspective.

The Saga Ceramic Industry Cooperative Association interviews artists who come to Arita about what they want to create, and provides support in coordinating with kilns that have the necessary skills to realize the work.

Saga Prefecture has been involved in various activities for the 400th anniversary of Arita-yaki pottery, but I think that by starting this artist residency program and accepting foreign artists, we have been able to look at Arita's manufacturing from an extroverted perspective.

There are many other local governments that are conducting residency activities, but we need to appeal to overseas people about the manufacturing that can only be done in Arita, and create a system to accept people with an open mind, while also creating a system that will allow the industry to conduct these activities independently in the future.

I would like to continue my activities to connect Arita and artists with a spirit of determination and challenge, including challenging the overseas market.
